LPC – March 2025 update
Flooding continues to be a major problem for the village with serious flooding and damage from the 6th January event. RCC have now appointed a Flood Officer who should start working towards the end of March. We have already requested a meeting with them as soon as possible after they take up their post. We have also discovered that RCC have not enforced any riparian rights in Langham since the 1990s. Many people are concerned about the overgrown banks and blockages in the brook which is restricting the flow and adding to the flooding problems.
We now have 2 fully trained flood wardens with 2 more waiting for their training. Our Flood Plan committee have nearly completed our Langham Flood Plan so should we get another flood we should be more prepared. We are also expecting delivery of a water level monitor to be fitted to the bridge over the A606 which will send out alerts when the water in the brook rises above a set level so we will get advance warning of a potential flood event.
We requested a survey of all the trees in the Community Park and Munday’s Close. A number of trees were found to be dead or dying and need urgent work to keep the area safe. At our last Parish Council meeting we voted to go ahead with the remedial work and will in future continue to survey the trees every 2 years.
We have put in requests via Cllr Hemsley for RCC Highways to consider reducing the speed limit along Burley Road to 40mph after representations from a number of residents and for the speed limit within the village (excluding the A606) to be reduced to 20mph. We are awaiting a reply from them.
The MCWG volunteers continue to manage Munday’s Close. The new pond is in place and will be planted and finished off very soon. They have also installed a trail cam and have captured deer, foxes and badgers. Some of the clips cam be seen on the LPC website ( mundays-close-trailcam )
LPC will be conducting a Community Speed Watch between 6th and 19th September 2025 this time coordinated by Cllr Cunningham. If you would like to volunteer please let her know.
This year's Litter Pick and sign clean will take place on Saturday March 15th. Meet at the village hall at 2pm
